Much Ado about Nothing

    I watched Much Ado About Nothing　in the library with Iori, Kanoko and Saki. This movie is a 1993 movie. This movie’s original is Shakespeare’s story. This movie stars Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson. Kenneth Branagh directed it. Kenneth Branagh held two posts. And he is famous as actor of Shakespeare. This movie cost $8 million and it earned more than $20 million at the box office in America.

   At Messina in Sicily, Don Pedro who is a Spanish prince of Aragon came Leonato’s premises. Leonato is governor of Messina.   Richard Briers acted this character. Claudio is a count, companion of Don Pedro. Robert Sean Leonard acted this character. Claudio fell in love with Leonato’s only daughter, Hero. Kate Beckinsale acted the character.  Benedick, companion of Don Pedro is a person who favors celibacy. He and Beatrice, a niece of Leonato argued as soon as they met face to face. Borachio, follower of Don John made eyes at a handmaid of Hero. Don John, Don Pedro’s brother by a different mother looked displeased. Claudio fell in love with Hero but he couldn’t confide the way feels. Don Pedro was unable to let pass unnoticed. He disguised as Claudio and he proposed to Hero. But Claudio fell into the Don John’s trap so Claudio misunderstands Don Pedro. However Claudio cleared up about Don Pedro, and he and Hero will hold a wedding next week. Furthermore, Don Pedro plans to get Benedick hitched with Beatrice. Don Pedro caught them in a trap, and they fell in love each other.

  I watched these scenes and this movie is interesting. The characters in this movie were wearing old-fashioned clothes. I think their clothes were worn in the time of Shakespeare. And the scene of an argument, Benedick and Beatrice’s ways of saying were interesting. I don’t know many ways of saying so I want to learn them.

  After the first half, Don John and Borachio plan to a new strategy. They showed to Claudio and Don Pedro as if Hero was unfaithful to Borachio. This plan was a success. Claudio and Don Pedro believed the thing and they were crushed with grief and anger. However, Borachio was talking about this plan, and it was heard by night watches. Dogberry and others tortured Borachio and they knew that Don John backs Borachio. And Don John fled from the premise.

   This scene irritated me. Why Claudio would suspect this plan! I felt Don John couldn’t be worse as a person. I dislike Don John!!!

   Next day, Dogberry reported Don John’s plan to Leonato but he couldn’t figure out what his word means. And Claudio and Hero’s wedding ceremony held in Leonate’s house, however Claudio had a firm belief that Hero was unfaithfulness. Leonato and Beatrice soothed Claudio but he turns a deaf ear to that. In the end, Hero was in a swoon and Claudio left there. However Benedick and Beatrice had a feeling of mistrust. Then a priest proposed a plan that they pretend Hero passed away because Claudio abused to her. In that case, Claudio changes his mind.

   This scene was irritated too! And I thought Claudio is a foolish person! Why would he have fallen an easy prey to deception dozens of times and he can’t believe Hero. Claudio was innocent but no matter what he says, that’s going too far. I think Hero sustained an emotional hurt.

   After the plan, Claudio has known that the entire thing was Don John’s stratagem. Leonato said to Claudio that he killed his daughter. He found out his mistake and he consented to Leonato’s requirement. The requirement was Claudio would announce that Hero was innocent and he offers up a grief song at Hero’s grave. And he gets married with a niece. The niece was a mirror image of Hero. After a false funeral, Claudio attended at a wedding ceremony. And then Hero came out in front of Claudio. They were glad of Hero and Claudio’s marriage. Even more Benedick proposed to Beatrice! Finally, Don John was captured.

   In fact, I think this movie will be boring but the end of this, I felt very interesting! If Don John were not captured, what would he have done? I think he didn’t have any money so he could not run far away. If he could run far away, would he  have become to be happy? Could he get married? Could he be blessed with child? I don’t know what he becomes of him since. In my opinion, Don Pedro doesn’t give his forgiveness to Don John. I want to read the story of what happened later to the characters the previous. Do Claudio and Hero have children? Were Benedick and Beatrice happy? I have many questions but Shakespeare is the only one who knows their answers. I watched this movie. The original is Shakespeare’ comedy. So I think that this story is put on many times. I want to watch this play! Because I go to watch plays twice a year, I can’t help being very conscious of the directions plays each performances. And I want to appear on stage of this comedy!

   Nonetheless the characters of men, especially Claudio and Don John, I don’t like their types. The faces are very good but their personalities couldn’t get along with me. If I get married with them, I think our married life doesn’t go smoothly. Things tend to go wrong in world of ours as this story.
