My favorite prefecture

My favorite prefecture is my home town, Kumamoto! I think Kumamoto is the best prefecture in Japan. Kumamoto's water is groundwater. This taste is very good! And many foods are produced in Kumamoto. So people in Kumamoto can eat fresh foods. Kumamoto doesn’t prosper than Tokyo, Osaka and so on but I like Kumamoto. The main cities like Tokyo, Osaka have much transportation but I'm not good at transfer so I'm always confused. Buses and city trains are the main transportation in Kumamoto so I don't think it is easy to transfer for us. And Kumamoto, prices are lower than the main cities. Especially, I think Kumamoto has many beautiful and historical places. Kumamoto castle is called "a famous castle". It was built by Kiyomasa Katou about 400 years ago. And we can see a magnificent view in Mt. Aso. Kumamoto is the best place to live!  (152/8913 words)

My favorite group

My favorite group is D-BOYS and the group members are actors. They usually work each of them but once a year they gather together and hold an event. And they put on shows about three times in a year. I often watch them. So I go to Tokyo or Osaka each time. This year I went to Osaka and Tokyo two times. Sometimes, the members come in Fukuoka. Each time I go there and spend money wastefully too. But they give me happiness, dream, and excitement. I love the group for six years. About four years ago, the new group, D2 formed and two years ago, the new music group DDATE. D2 has sixteen members. An average of their age is younger than D-BOYS. The members are very cool and cute. Recently, I like one of the members, Ryosuke Ikeoka. He has drooping eyes. I introduced DDATE before so I don't introduce it. (153/8761 words)

BR 2-24: The Snow Queen

One winter's day Derda and Key were playing outside in the snow. They worked all day to build a snowman. At last it was finished. 'It looks great,' said Gerda. 'I like your green scarf and that funny, old hat  we found in granny's house!' 'Ouch!' said Key, 'I've got something in my eye. It really hurts.' 'Let me have a look,' said Gerda. 'I can't see anything, perhaps it was a piece of snow.' But it was not snow that was in Key's eye, it was a piece of glass from magic mirror. Now, what will happen.

This book is penguin young readers, level 4. This story is very famous all over the world. Do you know it? When I was a child, my mother read the story and I was very afraid. The snow queen kidnaped  Key. So Gerda went to help him. The snow queen has a ice heart so she couldn't understand people's feeling. This story is a little long but the words are easy so we can read speady.  In this winter, the snow queen will come your city and you will be kidnaped by her.

My favorite movie

My favorite movie is Charlie and the Chocolate factory. This movie was directed by Tim Burton. The film stars are Johnny Depp and Freddie Highmore. This is very funny. I like Tim and Johnny's combination. When I watched this movie, it was excited for me. The chocolate factory is Wonka. In fact, the chocolates are sold all over the world. I have eaten it, it was good but it was a little sweet. This movie's view of the world is very interesting and the characters are very cute and funny. I like Oompa-Loompas. Oompa-Loompas are dwarfs. But they are very strange and they like dancing and singing. Their songs make fun of the other characters. The factory has many strange machines. The children were trapped by Wanka. BR2-22 LONDON

London-two thousand years of history. From the Romans and King Henry the Eighth to the city of today and tomorrow - and from St Paul's Cathedral and Buckingham Palace to Petticoat Lane and Ronnie Scott's Jazz club.

London is a book in the Factfiles subseries of Oxford Bookworms. as you may know, Factfoles os a nonfiction subseries. Many of the books about places, and some about social problems such as the environment. Many of the books about places are about countries, but this one is about England's most poplar city. Like many of the books, London has nine chapters: This is London!, in the beginning, Visiting the city, Some places to go, Westminster, Shops and eating, Going out, Museums and galleries,  Places and parades. Some consist of two pages, as with the Stage 1 books, other four pages. The first page (This is London!) consist of only one page. The last chapter has a nice large map of London, and photos are included on every page. The book ends with two pages of exercises and a glossary.

The language in general is fairly simple, but the impression is that it's noticeably more challenging than Stage 1 books. Most of the vocabulary is fairly simple, but there are many proper nouns. This is unavoidable in a book introduction a place, but may give an impression of difficulty to some students. Picking page 6 at random, the numbers of words in each sentence are as follows: 9, 17, 14, 12, 16, 16, 10, 10, 19, 10, 15, 9. These figures give a mean of 21. One noticeable difference from stage 1 is the absence of very short sentence of fewer 10 words, which may slow down reading speed a little.

The chapter that appealed to me the most was Chapter 4: Some places to go. The Queen's Gallery is also at the palace, and you can visit it at most times of the years. I want to go to the Queen Gallery! (329/5942 words)

Shopping

Last Friday, I went to Shopping with my mother. We went to Kurea. We often go there. First, we went to Kardi. The shop is selling many foods and drinks of  foreign countries. I like the shop. My mother bought gnocchi and tomato source.  it was a dinner in the day. Next we went to clothes shops. I wanted to get new clothes. Today's clothes were bought by my mother, I like them. My mother bought an apron by baby because we have a dog, so The apron was worn for him by her.  We went to sushi shop to eat lunch. it was delicious.  (109/ 5613 words)

BR2-21: FOOD AND DRINK IN BRITAIN

Oxford Bookworms Factfiles in a sub-series in the Oxford Bookworms series. It is devoted to nonfiction, and most of the books are about countries or famous cities or environmental problems.

The book I read today is Food and Drink in Britain. Generally, the book is quite easy to read. There are few embedded clauses, and the sentences simple in structure. The average sentence length is about 16 words. There are some much longer sentences, but most of those are lists or have easy-to-understand clauses ouch as "because" clauses. The vocabulary is quite simple, with few unknown words theta learners will need to look up in the dictionary. But the books do have quite a lot of information and the number of words in fairly large. Thus, these books are recommended for learners who are aiming to progress beyond very short and simple books such Usborne First Reading or Oxford Reading Tree.

The book concocts of twelve chapters: Introduction, Changes in diet and shopping ,Farming and fishing, Home-cooked food, Eating out and eating outside, Fast food, Potatoes: a staple food,A sweet tooth, Going for a drink, How to make Shepherd's Pie,  and How to make Scones.

Chapter 2, Changes in diet and shopping, describe one thing witch has changed is the way same foods are seen as ordinary and cheep, and others special and valuable. and the chapter explained the diet of many British people is quiet different to that of their parents and has often changed in their own lifetime.

Overall, the bookwas very interesting and useful for me. My knowledge of food and diet in Britain was very limited, and the book gave me lots of useful information and made me went to visit Britain my self. As mentioned above, this book and other books in the Factfiles sub-series may be a useful next step for learners who have read very simple books.  (313/5504 words)

They set off. But when they got to the park... "Oh, dear," said Mr Hopkins. "What a mess!" There was litter everywhere. The pley park was full of rubbish. Soggy bits of paper floated in the pond. There was even an old shopping trolley in the stream.
The students and Mr. Hopkins cleaned full of rubbish up! When they had finished, the bags were full of robbish. The first time, the children cleaned grudgingly but the last they are very tired and enjoyed.
